Some early scientific evidence shows that a standardized extract
of elderberry can enhance immune function, including in people who
have influenza. Although more research is needed, it may also reduce
the number of days that you have symptoms from the flu to 3 to 4

American Botanics Herbal Fact Sheet = notes that elderberry
should not be taken by pregnant and lactating women. This may be
there as a standard precaution because of lack of studies on it.
A quick look over the first few pages of google summaries searching
"elderberry lactating" brings up a lot of cautions that say "should
not be used by pregnant and lactating women."
